2015 NFL Mock Draft: KC Chiefs Focus On Offense Early
Kansas Jayhawks cornerback JaCorey Shepherd (24) Mandatory Credit: John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports
Taking local college players in back to back rounds is a good idea for the Kansas City Chiefs. JaCorey Shepherd, while playing for the not so good Kansas Jayhawks, is a talented cornerback. The Chiefs need help in the secondary and Shepherd is the type of guy who could fill the void for Kansas City.

Starting as a wide receiver at Kansas is what could make JaCorey Shepherd dangerous in the secondary. There’s a saying like, “Defensive guys are on defense because they can’t catch the football”, but Shepherd could be the opposite of that. As a wide receiver for the Jayhawks, he had three touchdowns and 250 yards receiving, and that was as a freshman.
Shepherd switched to corner during his sophomore season, but it wasn’t until his junior year that he really took off at the position. He wouldn’t be an immediate starter in Kansas City, as Sean Smith, Ron Parker, Phillip Gaines, and Marcus Cooper are the main corners as of now, but JaCorey Shepherd is definitely a guy to keep an eye on.
My co-editor Michael Tavis wrote about Shepherd’s college career, and had this to say,
"Shepherd is best as a nickle corner, and will need to excel on special teams to make a statement on an NFL team. He is 5ft 11 inches tall, which is a little shorter than the preferred size of a cornerback in the NFL. There are certainly shorter cornerback’s who have found success in the NFL."
