Adding Devin Funchess and Devin Smith (Devin squared as I’ll be calling them should this happen) in back to back rounds would be a great scenario for the KC Chiefs for 2015. Smith was originally projected to be Kansas City’s first round pick by Mel Kiper Jr., but he since switched it to Jaelen Strong. Not only that, but Smith was still on the board in the third round during this mock.

A lot of the decline in Smith’s stock could be due to many seeing him as a limited wide receiver prospect. Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report included Smith in his article about mislabeled members of this year’s draft class, stating,

"It’s easy to look at his game and be overwhelmed by his ability to stretch a defense vertically. After all, Smith led college football with an average of 28.2 yards per catch. Even the best collegiate defenses, including the Alabama Crimson Tide and Michigan State Spartans, couldn’t stop Smith from getting behind the secondary. With 4.42-second 40-yard-dash speed and subtle movements in his route running, Smith proved nearly impossible to stop when he was asked to run a go route."

Smith’s got the speed, that’s for sure. With him on the KC Chiefs offense, I think we’d be seeing a lot of Smith to Smith connections. Get it? Alex to Devin? Okay, stupid joke, but still. I wasn’t a fan of taking Devin Smith in the first round, but if he’s still on the board in the third round, draft him. He’s a fast receiver with the ability to make plays and that is greatly welcomed in Chiefs Kingdom.
