Michael Crabtree‘s 2014 stats may not have been the flashiest in 2014, but the best thing going in this situation is that he already has a connection with Alex Smith. The two played in San Francisco together for four seasons and Smith tossed 12 touchdowns his way during their time together.

  • Smith and Crabtree just started to heat up when Colin Kaepernick took over for an injured Alex Smith.

Crabtree struggled to find a groove after Smith departed, as he only played in five games in 2013 due to nagging injuries and had one touchdown reception on the entire year. Last year wasn’t much better for Crabtree, as he only had four touchdowns.

Crabtree has had one 1,000 yard season in his career and that was with Alex Smith as his quarterback (well part of the time anyway). Some might say that Michael Crabtree is a diva, and I won’t argue with you much there.

Again though, the Kansas City Chiefs really don’t have a lot of money to spend on free agency and Crabtree would be the type of guy they might be able to give a one-year deal to and make him prove himself to the team for a bigger deal.

Now will any of that happen? Probably not. If Crabtree is going to come to Kansas City though, it’ll likely be to rejoin his former quarterback and hopefully play like he did in that 2012 season.
