Round 3, Pick 16

Tyler Lockett is as obvious a pick with the 16th pick in the third round as it gets for the Kansas City Chiefs. Lockett’s father was drafted in the second round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Chiefs, and Lockett has gone on record saying he would be happy to follow in his father’s foot steps.

"“I would love to play for the Kansas City Chiefs,” he said. “Andy Reid is a great coach. If the Chiefs give me an opportunity, I’ll take it and I’ll run with it.” -Courtesy of BJ Kissel of KCChiefs.com"

Lockett would not have to travel far to join the Chiefs if he was drafted by them. He was a star wide receiver for the Kansas State Wildcats.

He doesn’t have the wingspan or catch radius that people covet so much in wide receivers, but he does have solid speed, great hands, great field awareness, and an exceptional route runner. He does struggle in press coverage but has the speed to beat the defender if he can beat the press as he proved at the Senior Bowl.

Lockett is also explosive after he catches the ball, and that would transition to Andy Reid‘s offense perfectly. The Chiefs would be a dangerous team with Lockett, Jamaal Charles, and De’Anthony Thomas on the field at the same time.

Lockett is projected at the 15th best wide receiver in the 2015 NFL Draft and the 98th overall prospect. He has climbed from a mid to late round prospect to the third round so keep an eye on his draft stock moving forward.
