It seemed like only a matter of time before Salvador Perez made his way to the top spot on this list. Perez’s numbers are only outweighed by his joy for the game and his enthusiasm for his teammates and fans.
Salvy is now a leader among Royals’ catchers in most categories. He set his career high in home runs in 2017 and 2018 with 27, has driven in 80 twice, and scored 57 runs twice. He also has five Gold Gloves and two Silver Slugger awards.
The most exciting part is that he is still 28 years old and is signed through 2021.
- First in Home Runs – 141
- First in Runs Scored – 381
- First in Runs Batted In – 503
- Eighth (t) in Stolen Bases – 4
- First in Batting Average – .266
- Ninth in On Base Percentage – .297
- First in Slugging Percentage – .442
- Third in Wins Above Replacement – 17.7
- First in Doubles – 130
The only thing holding Perez back offensively is his dismal On-Base Percentage. He does not like to take walks and that hurts him in his WAR as well.
Still, at the age of 28, Perez is already a six-time All-Star, including four starts and being the overall leading vote-getter once.
The sky is the limit for Perez and he end up the best catcher of his era for all of the majors.
