People around the Kansas City area would love this pick. Not only is Tyler Lockett going to be an all around stud in the NFL, but he attended school just a few hours outside of KC. Lockett spent his college days at Kansas State and would make a great mid round draft pick for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Lockett’s father was a second round draft pick by the Chiefs in 1997, which gives Tyler a reason to want to become apart of the team himself.
"“I’ve always followed in my dad’s footsteps as well as my uncle’s,” Lockett said. “I went to the same middle school as my dad and uncle. I went to the same high school and college.” ~~~ “I would love to play for the Kansas City Chiefs,” he said. “Andy Reid is a great coach. If the Chiefs give me an opportunity, I’ll take it and I’ll run with it.” – Tyler Lockett in B.J. Kissel’s article from KC Chiefs’ website"
With all of that aside, Lockett would be a great fit for the Chiefs. He’s a good blocker, which is much needed for an offensive line that got destroyed last season. He also is great at getting separation, which is something that Dwayne Bowe struggles with.
Lockett was able to showcase his seperation ability consistently at the Senior Bowl, including on this highlight reel play.
Lance Zierlein of NFL.com noted that scouts think Lockett is more suited to be an NFL kick returner or punt returner. Obviously the Chiefs have De’Anthony Thomas handling punt return duties and Knile Davis doing kick returns, but Lockett could still help out there if needed.
Tyler Lockett is projected to go sometime in the second or third round. If he’s still available in the third round, then I think the KC Chiefs should select him.
