Round 5, Pick 17
Josh Shaw is another guy that has his character being questioned after he lied about how he injured his ankles during the summer prior to the 2014 season. Shaw claimed that he injured his ankles while trying to save his nephew from drowning in a swimming pool. Everyone was calling the USC Co-Captain a hero until the truth came out that he was actually injured by jumping from a third story apartment balcony after an argument with his girlfriend.
At 6-1, 200 pounds, Shaw fits the tall athletic corner role perfectly. Shaw has also shown leadership, being a Co-Captain at USC. I wouldn’t hold one lapse of judgement against the kid. If he can come in and compete all will be forgiven.
"Shaw possesses terrific football intelligence, which is demonstrated not only with his ability to shuffle from corner to either of the safety position but in the closing burst he shows once the ball has been thrown. Shaw is rarely fooled in coverage and rips at the ball as it arrives. He is a reliable, consistent tackler. -Rob Rang of CBS Sports"
The Chiefs need someone to come in and compete for the second Cornerback spot opposite of Sean Smith. The second corner spot was a revolving door last season between Marcus Cooper, Philip Gaines, and Chris Owens.
Round 6, Pick 16
Dean Marlowe isn’t a guy that a lot of people know, but he is a consistent player that could provide much needed depth at the Safety position, especially with the uncertainty of Eric Berry‘s future.
"Versatile. Played deep, from slot and in box. Very aggressive with desire to hit in open field. Has ability to play deep in a shell. Willing run supporter who recognizes and comes charging in. Plays high to low quickly and looks for work. Solid tackler who generally plays run with proper leverage. Takes good angles to the ball. Will come across the field to make a play and is consistent in pursuit. -Lance Zierlein of NFL"
Marlowe’s tackling ability will give him an opportunity to start and make an impact immediately on special teams. Marlowe’s ceiling is likely a good special team’s player that provides good depth at the safety position. You never know where you will find a diamond in the rough though.
