Round 3, Pick 19
The KC Chiefs will select Josue Matias to be their future guard to help protect college teammate Jameis Winston. It is no secret that the Chiefs had a lot of problems with their offensive line this season, and they had to do something in the draft to help fix their holes in the line.
"Matias sets up quickly off the snap with smooth reflexes and the fast reactions to mirror rushers in pass protection. He is quick to shoot his hands and engage with defenders, staying balanced and shifting his weight well in his movements. Matias has a naturally wide base with a flexible lower body and the frame to engulf defenders, using his length well. He keeps his head on a swivel with good eye use to pick up multiple rushers and there simply isn’t much that appears to surprise him -Dane Brugler of CBS Sports"
The Chiefs have desperately needed a player who can stay calm and composed on the offensive line ever since Branden Albert left for Miami. The Chiefs still have weaknesses at offensive tackle but Matias would go a long way in helping the Chiefs fix their offensive line issues, and the Chiefs would be lucky if he fell to them midway through the third round. Some experts have Matias going as high as the second round.
