While not making it into the postseason is disappointing, the Kansas City Chiefs showed that they were a good team at times this year. Losing to teams like the Titans and Raiders hurt the Chiefs, but they made up for it with big wins against the Bills and the Seahawks.

The future looks to be fairly bright for this Chiefs team, but they’ll need to improve on the offensive line and get some decent wide receivers. Hopefully Eric Berry will recover and be able to return to the secondary. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Tamba Hali and if he remains in Kansas City or not because Dee Ford was drafted to someday take over for Hali. Ford didn’t get a lot of playing time, but he didn’t look too bad at the end of the season.

Maybe 2015 will finally be the year the Chiefs get over that annoying hump and win a damn playoff game.

One thing’s for sure though, this Chiefs defense has shown that they’re a force to be reckoned with. They were the only team in the NFL to allow less than 30 points in every game (the most they gave up was 29 to the Broncos in week 14) and will more than likely continue that trend in 2015 with Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito returning next year. The run defense needs to get better and Johnson and DeVito should be able to help out tremendously in that department.

Travis Kelce was also a positive coming out of this season. He might not have had as many touchdowns as Rob Gronkowski or other big name tight ends had, but Travis Kelce is definitely on the up and up in the NFL.

Overall though, a 9-7 record is pretty good considering how this team started the season. If someone had told me after week 2, that the Chiefs would still be in playoff contention in the final week of regular season, I would have laughed in their face.

Kansas City has now posted back to back winning seasons and only look to be getting stronger. Maybe 2015 will finally be the year the Chiefs get over that annoying hump and win a damn playoff game.
