Kansas City Chiefs: 2014 Season in Review
Week 14: 17-14 Loss at Arizona Cardinals
Just like the San Francisco game, this match up against the Arizona Cardinals should have been a Chiefs victory, but a BS call against Travis Kelce “fumbling” cost the Chiefs the game. Well, that and a pass interference call that wiped out a Kansas City touchdown.
It was disappointing to watch the Chiefs drop this one and even more frustrating that this was the third straight game they had lost despite going on a five game winning streak just weeks before.
Week 15: 31-13 Win VS Oakland Raiders
At least Kansas City got this one right. They managed to beat Oakland at Arrowhead for the second year in a row, but it would have been better had they been able to sweep them for two years in a row.
Despite the score looking like the game was a blow out, the Chiefs weren’t doing much in the first half of the game and it was only a 10-6 KC lead at half time. The third quarter is when a fire was lit under the offense and the Chiefs were able to score three touchdowns and put the dagger in the Raiders early on.
Week 16: 20-12 Loss at Pittsburgh Steelers
This game was just frustrating. Alex Smith was sacked on every other play (at least it felt that way) and the Chiefs had to settle for four field goals. Losing this game put Kansas City’s playoff chances on life support and really demoralized this Chiefs team and the fans.
Pittsburgh is one of those teams that Kansas City just never can seem to beat. The Steelers have had the Chiefs’ number throughout the past few games despite being close, but hopefully 2015 will swing in Kansas City’s favor.
Week 17: 19-7 Win VS San Diego Chargers
Chase Daniel got his second career start in this game and came away with his first NFL win. Sure, the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t make the playoffs, but knowing that they prevented the San Diego Chargers from getting into the postseason had to cheer up the Chiefs fan base a little bit.
This year all San Diego had to do was win and would punch their ticket into the postseason, but the Kansas City defense put a big stop to that.
Not only that, but the Chiefs swept San Diego for the first time since 2003. That’s something to be proud of, right? Any time we get to watch crybaby Rivers whine is a victory in itself. I can only imagine how angry he is about losing to the Chiefs TWICE in one season. Oh and one of those was to a BACKUP quarterback. How embarrassing.
I, for one, felt better about last year’s week 17 game with this win. Last year the Chiefs had no business losing in San Diego and should have won, but a missed field goal gave San Diego the win and allowed them into the playoffs. This year all San Diego had to do was win and would punch their ticket into the postseason, but the Kansas City defense put a big stop to that. Good times.
