Defense: Bend, but Don’t Break

The game started much like most fans thought it would. TCU efficiently marched 67 yards down the field in the first 2:24 of the game and staked an early 7-0 lead. Their second possession looked to be more of the same until the Jayhawks turned the Horned Frogs away on a 4th and 1 inside the red zone – something in which they lead the Big 12 this year.

  • For the remainder of the half the defense gave up only a field goal in forcing two punts and the first of three turnovers. Unfortunately for Kansas, the Horned Frogs made better adjustments in the second half and showed why they are still in contention for the national championship.

TCU’s offense (and special teams) found just enough of a spark to put up 21 points in the third quarter which proved to be the difference. Anchored by junior running back Aaron Green (19 carries, 128 yards, 2 TD) and an offensive line that started to open up some holes, the Horned Frogs showed flashes of the second ranked offense in the Big 12.

That’s not to say the Jayhawks defense gave up without a fight. They held TCU to a field goal despite driving to the Kansas 8 yard line. Senior linebacker Victor Simmons also forced a fumble which gave the Jayhawks a chance to cut their deficit to four points.
