Start ‘Em #3
Shane Vereen sure played his part in the Patriots’ dominance over the Jets last Thursday night. He caught two touchdowns, and was the teams new primary running back with Stevan Ridley being placed on injured reserve.
Vereen broke 10 carries for the first time in the season in Week 7, and matched his season-high in catches at 5. Obviously, the breakout week was due to the two touchdowns, but I see his role only expanding in Week 8.
I think Vereen will have another successful week, as his skill set is just too hard for Belichick to ignore.
The Pats play the struggling Chicago Bears who just lost to the Dolphins at home. Vereen should be involved throughout the game on the ground and in the air, making his value pretty high.
Unfortunately for fantasy owners, the Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is notorious for changing his rushing attack every week. It’s almost impossible for owners to know how much a back will get the ball or even if he will get the ball.
For example, Brandon Bolden was reported to be the guy to step in Ridley’s absence, while he got zero carries and no-name rookie Jonas Gray ended up getting more.
I think Vereen will have another successful week, as his skill set is just too hard for Belichick to ignore.
Consider him a #2 RB or a great flex option for Week 8.
