Throughout the years I have been pretty fortunate to attend some pretty great sporting events. I was born and raised in Kansas City and grew up loving the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. Between those two teams, I’ve been lucky to attend a ton of incredible games that I’ll remember for a lifetime.

I’ve decided to compile a list of my top five best sporting events I’ve attended. I won’t spoil the countdown, but there are three Kansas City games listed. The games are all within the past three and a half years because let’s be real… Royals games didn’t use to be as electric and intense as they have been the past couple of months.

With that said, let’s begin the countdown!

5) TCU vs Wisconsin: Rose Bowl (January 1st, 2011)

My sophomore year of college I was fortunate enough to attend the Rose Bowl out in Pasadena, California. My brother lived out there at the time so we went to see him and also thought it’d be cool to go to one of the biggest bowl games of the year.

Going into the game, I really didn’t care who won. Nebraska hadn’t moved to the Big 10 yet so that “rivalry” (I use that term loosely) didn’t exist, and aside from LaDainian Tomlinson, I hadn’t even heard of TCU.

My opinion quickly changed though.

Wisconsin fans were shoving my mom and I the entire way into the stadium and it really annoyed me. Fortunately we were sitting with the TCU fans, so I quickly jumped on the Horned Frog bandwagon. Boy was I glad I did!

The game came down to the final play where Wisconsin (Montee Ball, to be exact) scored a touchdown and then tried to go for two to tie the game. They failed on the conversion and I got to see Andy Dalton and the TCU Horned Frogs win the Rose Bowl.

Another fun fact: J.J. Watt was also playing in this game, only for the Badgers. He’s the only thing I liked about Wisconsin. Hard not to like him honestly.

The reason this game makes my list is because attending the Rose Bowl isn’t something everyone gets to do. Not only that, but it was an amazing game and I can say that this game started my hatred for the Wisconsin Badgers. It was the first of three straight years where Wisconsin went to the Rose Bowl and lost, something that became my favorite New Year’s tradition.

Not to mention the following year, Nebraska moved to the Big Ten and there began the “rivalry” between the Huskers and the Badgers. Huskers for life yo.
