Start ‘Em #2
Cooks is starting to build some real hype both in fantasy football in around the NFL. In week one against the Falcons, Cooks 7 of his 8 targets from Drew Brees for 77 yards and a TD. All this in the rookie’s first regular season NFL game.
I see Cooks having a good game with 5 or 6 receptions. He is a great flex option for week 2 and don’t be afraid to stick him in as your #2 WR in your lineups this week.
Given teammate/speedster Kenny Stills missed the game with a quad injury, I think Cooks built up enough report with Drew Brees to be targeted a bunch even when Stills comes back. Cooks has a unique skill set which has often been compared to that of Redskins stud wide-out DeSean Jackson.
Hes fast, is a good route runner, and has good hands. Coming from the slot position, teams will realize that he requires a good cornerback to follow him around. A linebacker and most safeties just won’t be able to keep up with him. But maybe the best part about Cooks’ upside for fantasy is that he plays for the Saints.
Drew Brees is one of the best QBs in the NFL and he has the receiving options of Marques Colston, Jimmy Graham, Kenny Stills, Pierre Thomas, and others that keep defenses from focusing too much on the 5’10” Cooks.
In week 2, the Saints play the Browns in Cleveland, which presents a good matchup for Cooks. Star cornerback Joe Haden will most likely be on Colston most of the game, and maybe Kenny Stills if he returns.
