The muscle hamster (his nickname) was cut short last season with a torn shoulder labrum. Martin only started in 6 games in 2014 before taking his place on IR with his shoulder injury.
Martins return in 2014 is highly anticipated, as he looks to bounce back and have another big year like he did in 2012. His rookie season, he scored the second most fantasy points for all running backs having rushed for 1400 yards and 11 TD’s.
However, his start to last season wasn’t so good as he looked flat and wasn’t involved much in the passing game. This season though, Martin will be paired up with new head coach, Lovie Smith, who runs more of a conservative style offense which could be a match made in heaven. The biggest question for muscle hamster will be his durability.
We’ve all seen the talent (size and speed) and we all know he’s capable of big numbers, especially in a PPR. With a new quarterback (Josh McCown) and a new offense being instated, Martin could be the workhorse that keeps the Buccs offense going.
Much like Foster, I look for Martin to also have a bounce back season in 2014 making him the 7th best running back option for my countdown.
