Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten (82) Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports
At #7 is Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten. At 31 years old, Witten is seasoned veteran that puts up consistent stats year in and year out.
Unlike the previous three on my list, Witten has little to no injury history. He has started every game for Dallas since 2004, showing how reliable of an option he is at the tight end position. The only problem is that he is getting old, making him more susceptible to injuries.
But whenever Witten is on the field, he is an immediate threat. He was 2nd on the team last season in most receiving stats, only trailing freak athlete Dez Bryant). In the red zone, he is as good as they come. Five of his touchdowns last season came with the opponent’s 20 yard line.
And of course, it is important to take the quarterback into play. Tony Romo has been with the Cowboys for as long as Witten has. Those two have been playing together for almost ten years. And even though people give Romo a lot of crap, he will usually make the play. Look for the Romo-to-Witten connection to be alive and well in 2014.
