Laurent Duvernay-Tardif might possibly be the smartest man on the Chiefs roster. Yes, even smarter than Dr. Alex Smith. Tardif was one of the Chiefs two, sixth round picks from this past draft and is one of the most interesting prospects they’ve had in a while.
Had he not chosen to try a career in the NFL, Tardif would have been the number one overall pick in the Canadian Football League draft. By way of McGill University in Montreal, Tardif has a large learning curve ahead of him in the NFL.

He’s been taking reps at tackle, but seems to be settling in more comfortably at guard. On the latest depth chart released by the Chiefs, Duvernay-Tardif is listed as the third left guard, behind Jeff Allen, and, Jeff Linkenbach.
The reason I’m keeping my eye on him is because I’m a former offensive lineman myself and keeping an eye on the “big uglies” has always been what I do. Besides that, there’s a reason he was going to be the number one pick in Canadian football and I was excited when the Chiefs decided to take a chance on him. If he can show well over the next few weeks, he has a chance to pass up Linkenbach for one of those final roster spots along the offensive line.
Side note: Duvernay-Tardif had just got done delivering twins when the Chiefs made the call to tell him he was being drafted. That story, along with his name, has me interested.
