Ahhh, something a little less crazy in terms of money. Prado, due $11 million/year through 2016, is still probably a tad over-priced for the Royals liking, but he would sure be an upgrade over Mike Moustakas at 3b.
He also provides positional flexibility in that he can play 2b and LF. He’s currently hitting below his career averages, but if he starts trending upward, he could be a much more attractive #2 hitter for the Royals lineup, and bump Infante down to bolster the lower third of the lineup.
Given how terrible the Diamondbacks are playing this season, I have to think big changes are going to be made in Arizona.
Chavez is currently on a 1 year/$3.5 million dollar contract. He’s older (36), and presents a lot of health issues. He hasn’t played a full season since 2006. However, he made a bit of a comeback the last two years, and posted respectable numbers for the Yankees and Diamondbacks.
I think he’s a guy the Royals could easily afford in terms of money, and wouldn’t warrant much in return with regard to prospects. If Danny Valencia can come back healthy for the Royals, adding a guy like Chavez to platoon at 3b could be a nice offensive boost.
