Kansas City Chiefs 2014 Rookie Mini-Camp: What To Watch For
De’Anthony Thomas is perhaps the most intriguing player at camp. Everyone will be lined up to get a glimpse of what Andy Reid is thinking in terms of how to use this kid.
Will he take handoffs? Run Routes? Bubble screens? The kid can literally do it all, it’s just a matter of him overcoming his size.
He’s only 5-foot-10, 176 lbs so a lot of questions surround his durability. Still, Andy Reid and John Dorsey were intrigued enough by his ability to select him in the fourth round.
Where Thomas will likely do most of his damage his rookie year will be on special teams. The Chiefs lost both Dexter McCluster and Quinten Demps, their two kick returners from 2013, to free agency.
Thomas holds Oregon career records for kickoff return yards (1,885) and punt return average (17.1) so he knows how to field a kick or two. Kansas City is looking to fill that void and Dave Toub may have found the perfect player to do so.
We’ll have to keep an eye out on the reports from practice to see where Thomas does in fact play.
