Kansas City Chiefs Defense: The Weak Link

Defense Wins Championships
In 2012 the Kansas City Chiefs had a 2-14 record and despite their win loss record, the Chiefs had a record of six Pro Bowlers selected, four of which were on defense.
As such, when the new Chiefs brass took the helm, it was their feeling that the defense was set and that the team only needed an influx of new offensive weapons to be able to turn things around for the 2013 season.

Going into the 2013 draft, the Chiefs concentrated mainly on the offensive side of the ball by selecting five offensive players with their seven picks. The selections included offensive lineman Eric Fisher, tight end Travis Kelce, and running back Knile Davis.
The biggest acquisition was finally addressing the huge gaping hole the team had at the quarterback spot. The Chiefs traded for Alex Smith from the 49ers for their 2014 second round pick.
After installing Andy Reid‘s new west coast style offense, several pistol formation wrinkles, and already counting on the all round talent that is Jamaal Charles, many felt that the Kansas City
Chiefs finally had all the pieces in place to make a serious play off run but alas it was all for nothing.
