Sporting took the early lead when Jacob Peterson got on the end of a ball that bounced around in the box and was able to slot it home low just inside the left post for his first goal of the year. Sporting added the dagger in the 95th minute to seal the victory when Graham Zusi crossed a ball into the box to Claudio Bieler who with a cool and calm finish guided it into the goal.

Sporting currently sit atop the table in the Eastern Conference with 14 points in 8 games played. The Montreal Impact are currently tied at the bottom of the table with just 6 points in 8 games played.

Montreal was able to capture their first victory of the year in their last league game against the Philadelphia Union. Impact midfielder Felipe Martins was able to score the first half goal off a rebound to give Montreal the lone goal in a 1-0 win.

Montreal come in to the game looking for revenge on Sporting after losing to them on April 19th 4-0 at Sporting Park. Montreal’s Callum Mallace opened the scoring with an own goal after Matt Besler sent a long throw into the box and Mallace got his head on it which sent it over the keeper and into goal to make it 1-0 in the 31st minute.

The game went in to half time with Sporting up 1-0 but Sporting came out firing in the second half. Aurelien Collin opened the second half scoring in the 71st minute with a low drive that just snuck inside the left post to give Sporting the 2-0 lead.

Sporting was far from finished because Dom Dwyer added his first goal of the game just minutes later when Jacob Peterson sent in a low cross from the right flank that met Dwyer just in front of goal where he directed it on frame for the 3-0 lead in the 74th minute. Sporting was able to add their final goal of the night when a Graham Zusi cross from the left flank met the head of Dwyer to give Sporting the 4-0 lead in the 86th minute.
