G-Will Shields, 3rd Round (74th overall), Nebraska–What can I say about Will Shields? He played 14 years for the Chiefs, making 12 pro-bowl teams, 2 AP 1st team All pro selections, and holds the franchise record for both games (224) and consecutive games (231 if you include playoff starts).

More from Chiefs All-Time Lists

He was the first Kansas City pick of the 1993 draft because GM Carl Peterson traded the 1st round pick to San Francisco for QB Joe Montana, and had taken DE Darren Mickell in the 2nd round in the supplemental draft in 1992.

Shields would have been a worthy 1st round pick.

Other players considered: CB Albert Lewis 1983, RB Jamaal Charles 2008, OLB Justin Houston 2011, LT Jim Tyrer 1961, and S Gary Barbaro 1976.

Shields is tied with CB Champ Bailey and G Randall McDaniel for most Pro-Bowls played. His consecutive games streak is second in NFL history to QB Brett Favre. He was a key cog in offensive lines that dominated the NFL from 2002 to 2005. He blocked for 5 1,000 yard rushers, including franchise rushing leaders Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson. Shields also paved the way for Hall-of-Famer Marcus Allen during his Kansas City era.

If there is one word to describe Will Shields, it’s consistency. He started every game of his Chiefs career except for the very first game of his rookie season.

Will Shields played in the last two playoff victories in franchise history, both during the 1993 playoff run that carried the Chiefs to the AFC Championship.

The Chiefs can only hope to get a guy 1/2 as good as Will Shields to fill their offensive line need at guard in 2014.
