With the 55th overall pick, the Kansas City Chiefs selected offensive lineman Rodney Hudson in the second round. Hudson has become a stable piece in the Chiefs’ offense and actually plays center now. He had minimal mistakes in 2013 and clicked well with new Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith.
While center Eric Kush recently was drafted by Kansas City, Hudson should be the starting center for 2014 and hopefully longer. He’s proven himself to be a reliable team player.
Justin Houston was drafted by Kansas City in the third round (70th overall) and had a breakout season in 2013. Houston was projected to go in the late first round in 2011, but he had some off the field issues, which led to him sliding down to the third round. The Chiefs snatched him up and haven’t regretted it.
Houston has recorded 26.5 sacks in his three seasons, 11 of those coming in 2013. He’s also had 140 tackles, one interception, three forced fumbles, and one safety. Houston was on pace to lead the league in sacks last season, but was sidelined for five weeks due to an elbow injury.
The defense suffered without him and it showed. Houston is due for a big season in 2014 and a big contract extension as well. He definitely deserves it!
