Round 3: E.J. Gaines, Cornerback, Missouri
Gaines is a stud athlete that isn’t afraid to get physical with receivers on the outside, or running backs that sweep to his side. Having watched him play the past few seasons, I feel like Gaines could possibly be the best corner back prospect in this years draft class. No biased intended.
The 5’10, 195 pound prospect possess great man-to-man coverage skills that could make him a perfect fit for the Chiefs aggressive defensive style. He’s projected to fall somewhere between rounds three or four, making him one of the more valuable prospects to be taken that late by any team.
It would be absolutely perfect if the Chiefs could snatch up Gaines in the third round. Corner is a position of need for the Chiefs since they cut Dunta Robinson last month. He would immediately compete for a starting roll on the Chiefs roster, and would be one of the better overall draft picks for them in 2014. He was available to me twice out of three times, making him my for sure third round choice.
Gaines was my pick for this same spot the last time I did this simulation and I couldn’t pass him up. Hopefully, Gaines is still there this late in the third round.
