Kansas City Chiefs: Top 5 Assistant Coaches In Chiefs History
Guys like Bill Cowher and John Gruden likely feel the same way. If and when these gentleman return to coaching, they’re likely going to want a lot of …
Number 2: Bill Cowher
Bill Cowher joined the Chiefs in 1989 as defensive coordinator. He was a part of the Derrick Thomas selection in 1989, going with Marty to Alabama to hold the work out. Cowher stayed with the Chiefs until 1991, when he moved on to become one of the best head coaches throughout the 90’s and early 2000’s with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Cowher made the jump to Pittsburgh in 1992, and would remain there all the way till the 2006 season, retiring as the Super Bowl XL champion. He turned the Steelers around immediately after joining them and became only the second coach in NFL history to take his team to the playoffs in each of his first six seasons.
After winning Super Bowl XL in 2006, Bill Cowher retired, ending his 14 year run with the Steelers. He is now an analyst for CBS’s NFL Today on Sunday mornings. He makes my list at number 2 because he’s a for sure hall of fame coach that helped draft arguably the greatest Chief of all time in Derrick Thomas.
