While the Detroit Tigers have to be considered the favorite to win the AL Central, they do have some glaring holes. Age is a factor in right field, shortstop, DH, and closer. The back end of the rotation, an relative unknown commodity at third, and serious question marks in left field, and catcher, leave the Tigers as vulnerable as they have been for a few seasons.
The Indians and Royals should battle all season, much as they did a year ago. The Indians got hot just at the right time in 2013, and they sprinted into the playoffs. A tight race for second in the AL Central, and a serious run at the post season, should repeat itself in 2014.
The Twins and White Sox are rebuilding, and though they both have a few competitive pieces, it is doubtful they have enough to challenge in the division.
If the 2014 AL Central race is as exciting as the 2013 race was, we are in for another treat.
