Number 1: Len Dawson
Len Dawson is the only Hall Of Fame quarterback in Chiefs history and is without a doubt, the best free agent signing in Chiefs history. He’s a Super Bowl MVP and world champion.
He’s the teams all-time leading passer in yards (28,507) and touchdown passes (237). He’s currently the color commentator for the Chiefs on their radio broadcast of games and has been a part of the NFL for 57 years, counting his playing and broadcasting career.
He was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, but struggled to make an impact despite being a first round draft selection. He found his way to Kansas City, where he linked up with offensive innovator, and head coach, Hank Stram who developed the perfect system for Dawson to run.
With a combination of formation shifts, inside traps, and multiple play-action passes, Stram and Dawson ran one of the best offenses in AFL, and, NFL history.
Dawson is a great Kansas Citian and an icon to the glory days of the NFL. He was a no brainer for number one on my list.
