Scenario 1 – Chiefs trade CB Brandon Flowers and one of their 6th round picks for a 2nd round pick, to free up enough cap to sign Safety Jarius Byrd and draft WR Kelvin Benjamin in the first round.
With scenario 1 it would be clear the Chiefs are sticking with their defensive coordinator Bob Sutton and his system because Brandon Flowers has proven to be one of the best corners in the league when playing in a Tampa 2 zone defense but Bob Sutton called for flowers to play man and he struggled especially against big bodied receivers such as Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas.
Brandon Flowers 2014 cap hit is $10.500,000 and if he is traded that would save the Chiefs $3,500,00. Jarius Byrd has been one of the best safeties in the NFL since entering the league in 2009. He is only 27 and would offer the Chiefs the answer they desperately need at FS. The problem is he would come with a steep price tag and would likely prevent the Chiefs from making any significant additions to their WR corp through free agency. That means any Jeremy Maclin fans should avoid this scenario.
Kelvin Benjamin is rated as the 4th best WR in this years draft behind Sammy Watkins, Mike Evans, and Marqise Lee. Coming in at 6ft 5 inches tall and running a 4.55 40 Benjamin would be a match up nightmare for opposing defenses opposite of Dwayne Bowe. So if you are interested in trading Brandon Flowers scenario 1 is for you.
