KC Kingdom is expanding at a rapid pace, and our goal is to be the best Kansas City area sports site on the internet. Ben and I are pleased to announce we have added another new staff member, Adam Cheshier, to our staff roster. Adam will be helping in our effort to expand our Royals coverage. We are excited to have him writing for KC Kingdom.
Adam has hit the ground running and has already published his first two articles with us. Check out his Royals Hot Stove report card, and how Johan Santana could be a feasible option for the Royals rotation.
Like all of the new writers to KC Kingdom, Tom took a few minutes to answer eight questions so we can get to know him just a little better. Here are his answers to those 8 questions:
How did you become a fan of the team you’re covering?
Royals- The Royals are the only team in any sport that I truly love. The Kansas City Royals are the sole reason I will stay put in Kansas City after college. So many memories as a kid with the whole neighborhood gang out at Kauffman. “Lima Time” was always our favorite time. And of course, as was he many people’s favorite Royal of the last decade, David Dejesus used to be my favorite Royal. But ever since the young third baseman, Alex Gordon, stepped on to the scene, he has taken over as my favorite Royal of all-time.
Jayhawks- Funny thing is, I used to be a Mizzou fan. My whole family is Tigers’ fans, and I used to be too. However, I was young and easily controllable. I couldn’t stand former MU Basketball coach, Quinn Snyder. So being the rebellious second grader that I was, I told my dad that I was going to stick it to the Tigers and cheer for KU until Quinn was fired. It took too long to fire him and I fell in love with winning basketball at KU. Call me a fair-weather fan, but I stick with KU, even through football season.
Where did you grow up and where do you currently live?
I have lived in the same house since day one in good ole Olathe, Kansas.
What is your college/educational background?
I am currently a junior at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. I am a Communications major with an emphasis in Public Relations.
What do you do for a living?
Other than being a full-time Royals fan, when I am home for the summer, I work out on a farm near Ottawa, Kansas doing numerous things. That takes up all the time I have to waste waiting for Royals games.
Do you have a family?
While I am home, I love spending time with my mom, dad, brother and sister. Though, I do enjoy being the oldest sibling.
What do you like to do for fun (sports related or otherwise)?
In high school, I played baseball every spring and every summer for my school. In college, I like to consider myself an intramural sports legend. I will generally participate in every sport that Pittsburg State intramurals leagues offer. Whether it is my first time playing the sport or not, I like to have fun with it and it gives me a way to bring out the competitiveness that I miss from high school sports.
What are your least favorite team(s) and why?
There is only one team that I absolutely despise: The New York Yankees. I can not stand any player, coach, or fan of the Yankees. Even though there are more teams now-a-days that throw money at players like it’s nothing, the Yankees were the poster child of the start of big money spending. I get into the whole “moneyball” aspect of the game, and I think the Yankees (and other large market teams) are absolutely ruining the game.
What is your favorite sports moment or memory?
My favorite sports memory will forever be playing backyard baseball with the neighborhood gang. We were everything that the kids in “The Sandlot” were. We started our own league, kept stats, held tournaments; the whole nine yards. Those were the best days of my life. As for my favorite sports moment that I didn’t participate in, the 2007 Fiesta Bowl between Boise State and Oklahoma. I’m not a huge college football junkie, but that game was mimicked during backyard football games in my neighborhood throughout my entire childhood.
