Dayton Moore’s biggest move didn’t disappoint on Opening Day. James Shields went head to head against Chicago’s Chris Sale. Shields went 6 strong innings, giving up just one run. It was the offense that had been so red hot in Arizona that went cold with the move north. The hitters didn’t muster a single run against the White Sox, and the Royals lost 1-0.
The Royals ended up losing their first 2 games of the season but bounced back to go 14-10 over the course of the month. They never lost more than 2 games in a row, and at one point, they won four consecutive outings.
It was a pretty good start to the season but there were some warning signs as the offense scored 3 or less runs 14 times. I t was a harbinger of things to come.
