It is pretty well known nationally now that a picture of George Brett in an old issue of National Geographic was part of the inspiration for international sensation’s Lorde’s hit song “Royals.” What you may not know is that the Royals have inspired far more than just Lorde’s jam, but several other current Top 40 songs. Below are some of the top songs in the country that you did not know where inspired by your hometown team.

1. “Timber” by Pitbull, Ke$ha

INSPIRED BY: Kansas City Royals mascot Sluggerrrrr

WHY: The real picture inspiration for this song cannot be posted on this site, but if you’d like to see the NSFW reason you can click here.

LYRIC THAT GIVES IT AWAY:

The bigger they are, the harder they fall
This biggity boy’s a diggity dog
I have them like Miley Cyrus,
clothes off twerking with my
bras and thongs, timber
Face down, booty up, timber
That’s the way we like the war, timber
I’m slicker than an oil spill
She say she won’t, but I bet she will, timber

2. “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus

Aug 13, 2013; Kansas City, MO, USA; Kansas City Royals designated hitter Billy Butler (16) grounds out to third base in the ninth inning of the game against the Miami Marlins at Kauffman Stadium. Miami won 1-0. Mandatory Credit: Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

INSPIRED BY: Billy Butler

WHY: Some would point to his baseball crushing ways, but, no, he’s just fat and looks likes a wrecking ball.

Billy is known for being a little sensitive, once being called a baby by teammate Jose Guillen. His desire to wreck baseballs in order to earn the love of Kansas City fans has just, well, wrecked him.

LYRIC THAT GIVES IT AWAY:

I came in like a wrecking ball
Yeah, I just closed my eyes and swung
Left me crashing in a blazing fall
All you ever did was wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me
Yeah, you, you wreck me

3. “Bound 2” by Kanye West

INSPIRED BY: Dayton Moore and Chris Getz relationship.

WHY: Kanye wrote this song before Moore and Getz’ inevitable breakup, but the images and words of Moore and Getz relationship are still fresh in the minds of Royals fans.

LYRIC THAT GIVES IT AWAY:

Hey, you remember where we first met?
Okay, I don’t remember where we first met
But hey, admitting is the first step
And hey, you know ain’t nobody perfect
And I know, with the hoes I got the worst rep
But hey, their backstroke I’m tryna perfect
And hey, ayo, we made it: Thanksgiving
So hey, maybe we can make it to Christmas
She asked me what I wished for on my wishlist
Have you ever asked your bitch for other bitches?
Maybe we could still make it to the church steps
But first, you gon’ remember how to forget
After all these long-ass verses
I’m tired, you tired, Jesus wept

4. “Marry Me” by Jason Derulo

Feb 21, 2013; Surprise, AZ, USA; Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez (13) poses for a picture during photo day at the Royals Spring Training Facility. Mandatory Credit: Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

INSPIRED BY: Salvador Perez

WHY: Because if you don’t want to marry Salvador Perez then you’re probably not a Royals fan… or human.

LYRIC THAT GIVES IT AWAY:

And you know one of these days when I get my money right
Buy you everything and show you all the finer things in life
We’ll forever be in love, so there ain’t no need to rush
But one day I won’t be able to ask you loud enough

5. “Roar” by Katy Perry

April 14, 2013; Kansas City, MO, USA; Kansas City Royals mascot Slugger during a game against the Toronto Blue Jays at Kauffman Stadium. Mandatory Credit: Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

INSPIRED BY: Sluggerrr

WHY: This is cleaner song inspired by Sluggerrr. Don’t let the part where Perry sings, “Got the eye of the Tiger,” fool you, this is not about the Detroit Tigers. This song was inspired immediately after Sluggerrr’s unfortunate incident with a hot dog and a fan in which the fan was hit in the eye and filed suit against Sluggerrr. Sluggerrr was able to come out of this dark place and become the champion mascot that he is. Very inspirational.

LYRIC THAT GIVES IT AWAY:

You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up (HEY!)
Get ready ’cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

6. “Brave” by Sara Bareilles

Dec 9, 2013; Orlando, FL, USA; Kansas City Royals manager Ned Yost talks with reporters during the MLB Winter Meetings at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort. Mandatory Credit: David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

INSPIRED BY: Ned Yost

WHY: Yost has a tendency to say things that may he should say. Or at least he has a way to phrase things in a way that make him look quite silly. Here are a few examples.

“What are you asking me to do? Take my belt off and spank them? Yell at them? Scream at them?…”

And…

“You know what? Maybe when we get home, I can go to the third base tree and pick another third baseman. … Obviously, third basemen who can hit and hit with power, they must grow on trees.

“They’ve got to. Like relief pitchers. And starting pitchers. Right fielders. Left fielders. First basemen. All of these guys must grow on trees, and you must be able to just go get another good one. A ripe one. Make sure it’s ripe.

“Those trees are at a hidden location but, obviously, they’re somewhere. Because that’s what everyone wants to do. Let’s just go pluck another one out of the tree. That’s the nonsense that really ticks me off.”

Also, Yost is a former Braves player and coach, so it all fits nicely together.

LYRIC THAT GIVES IT AWAY:

Say what you wanna say
And let the words fall out
Honestly I wanna see you be brave

7. “Burn” by Ellie Goulding

Sep 17, 2013; Kansas City, MO, USA; Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Yordano Ventura (30) tips his hat to the crowd as he leaves the field in the sixth inning against the Cleveland Indians at Kauffman Stadium. Mandatory Credit: John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

INSPIRED BY: Yordano Ventura

WHY: Ventura is known for tweeting “Let’s throw fire” before every start. With a fastball that will top 100 miles per hour on occasion, Ventura does indeed throw fire. Goulding, who is clearly a Royals fan, wrote a song based on Ventura’s blazing fastball and pregame twitter ritual.

LYRIC THAT GIVES IT AWAY:

When the light’s turning down, they don’t know what they heard
Strike the match, play it loud, giving love to the world
We’ll be raising our hands, shining up to the sky
‘Cause we got the fire, fire, fire
Yeah we got the fire, fire, fire

8. “Do What U Want” by Lady Gaga, R. Kelly

INSPIRED BY: Jimmy Faseler

WHY: Oh, you know why.

LYRIC THAT GIVES IT AWAY:

So do what you want
What you want with my body
Do what you want
Don’t stop, let’s party
Do what you want
What you want with my body
Do what you want
What you want with my body
