KC Kingdom is expanding at a rapid pace, and our goal is to be the best Kansas City area sports site on the internet. Ben and I are pleased to announce we have added another new staff member, Brent Guglielmino, to our staff roster. Brent will be helping in our effort to expand our Royals and Chiefs coverage. We are excited to have him writing for KC Kingdom.
Brent has hit the ground running and has already published his first article with us. Check out his observations about how big the next few weeks will be for the Royals’ decision makers in shaping the team for next season and those beyond.
Like all of the new writers to KC Kingdom, Tom took a few minutes to answer eight questions so we can get to know him just a little better. Here are his answers to those 8 questions:
How did you become a fan of the team you’re covering? I grew up in the Royals heyday of the late 70s watching all those great teams and practically living at Royals Stadium when they were good. It really hurt to watch them decline in the subsequent decades. As for the Chiefs, well, same story. They were entering the height of the post-Stram era decline when I first started watching NFL football and it wasn’t until Marty got there that things really started to turn around. But I was a loyal fan throughout.
Where did you grow up and where do you currently live? I grew up in Kansas City, attended Oak Park High School. I currently live in Franklin,TN.
What is your college/educational background? I was an undergrad at the University of Missouri in Columbia and then went on to get Masters Degrees in Strategic Studies from the US Air Force’s Air War College, Strategic Intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College in Washington DC, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
What do you do for a living? I was an Air Force Intelligence officer having retired this past November with 22 yrs of service.
Do you have a family? I have a wonderful wife of 18 years and two beautiful children, a boy and a girl, ages 9 and 11.
What do you like to do for fun (sports related or otherwise)? Before I got old, I played baseball, basketball, and football but these days I spend more time with my other passions, playin’ the blues and cooking BBQ (like any self-respecting KC native).
What is your favorite sports moment or memory? Probably watching those Royals teams from ’76-’80. They were so good from top to bottom and Royals stadium was just a blast to be at in those days. Very exciting teams. Lots of speed, dominant pitching, great defense, just at great style of baseball to watch.
What are your least favorite team(s) and why? I still hate the Yankees for obvious reasons but I also hate the Broncos and the Raiders. The Broncos because of the Elway flashbacks I still suffer from, and the Raiders because that’s what you do when you’re a Chiefs fan.
