SEASON COMPLETE
On a certain level this was a successful season for the Jayhawks. They won three games, snapped their Big 12 conference losing streak, and improved their defense tremendously from the year prior.
On the other hand, this was the weakest Big 12 in years. Iowa State, West Virginia, TCU, and Texas Tech should have been winnable games for the Jayhawks. Jake Heaps never materialized as legit quarterback, the wide receivers unit made virtually no improvement from the year before, and the offensive line got worse as the season moved along.
So what do we make of the Jayhawks in 2014? Heaps will be back for better or worse and Montell Cozart will compete for the starting gig at quarterback. There is a lot of recruiting left for Weis to do this winter, and a new offensive system will be installed with the arrival of a new offensive coordinator.
Year three of the Weis era has to end in a bowl game – six wins. Seeing how Kansas gets that much better in one offseason is tough construct.
