4. Texas Longhorns
Record: 8-3 (7-1)
Previous Ranking: 5
Last Week: Bye
This Week: Texas 41, Texas Tech 16
Next Week: at Baylor
Case McCoy threw two touchdown passes and Malcolm Brown and Joe Bergeron each rushed for over 100 yards in the Longhorns’ Thanksgiving Day win over Texas Tech. The 41 points were the most Texas has put up in regulation since posting 56 points on New Mexico State on August 31.
The win also means Texas remains in the thick of things for the Big 12 championship, but they’ll need a little bit of help to make it happen from their rival Oklahoma. An Oklahoma win over Oklahoma State and a Texas win over Baylor would give the Longhorns a seemingly improbably Big 12 championship after the way the season started.
Their bowl situation is a little less clear as the Longhorns could end up anywhere from the Fiesta Bowl to the Buffalo Wild Wings bowl, depending on their finish in the conference.
