A win is a win is a win. Ugly? Sure, but it’s our ugly win. Here some quotes, notes, and tweets from Sunday’s victory that leaves KC 8-0.
QUOTES
“It felt like it was just one man against another man, who’s going to come out with that ball? And I wasn’t going to go to sleep knowing that I was the man who lost that battle.” – Frank Zombo on the scrum to recover Davone Bess‘ fumbled punt return
“You’ve just got to make it happen. Last year, the ball didn’t bounce our way. This year, we feel like we’ve got to take it by force.” – Brandon Flowers on forcing turnovers
“As a player, you never know when it’s going to be your day. You just have to be there when it’s time. I was able to get started early and get some balls early. You would think they would try and counter that with their defense. It was my opportunity, and I took advantage of it.” – Dexter McCluster on his seven catch, 10 target day
“He can do so many things. He handles everything naturally really well, and combine that with coach (Andy) Reid and (offensive coordinator) Doug Pederson, and their imaginations, and you get a lot of possibilities there.” – Alex Smith on McCluster
“That dude definitely has some escapability. He makes a lot of plays with his feet. I had no clue before he came here that he can move the way he does.” – Jeff Allen on Smith’s running ability
“We’re not even close to where we should be. As a group, we’re not where we want to be. So we’ve got to keep working, grinding and getting better.” – Jon Asamoah on the offensive line play
NOTES
– Alex Smith is the first quarterback since the merger to start 8-0 with a new team.
– Smith threw two touchdown passes Sunday, the first two he’s thrown since week four against the New York Giants.
– All 20 of the teams who have started a season 8-0 have made the playoffs.
– Jamaal Charles had another 100+ yards from scrimmage day. One more next week and he ties O.J. Simpson‘s record for most consecutive games with 100+ yards from scrimmage to start a season.
