2. Texas Longhorns

Record: 5-2 (4-0)

Previous Ranking: 2

Last Week: Texas 30, TCU 7

This Week: vs Kansas

Next Week: at West Virginia

A three-hour weather delay wasn’t enough to take the edge off of Texas’ defense, who held TCU to 246 total yards and one score.

Since their early season struggles against the run, Texas has been able limit the damage they allow on the ground by pounding right back both on defense and offense. The tandem on Jonathan Gray and Malcolm Brown has combined for 890 yards and seven touchdowns, which has helped keep the defense off the field and fresh.

Playing with a lead hasn’t hurt either as the offense has averaged 32 points per game since the 1-2 start.

The momentum should continue for the next two weeks as Texas has Kansas and West Virginia on their schedule. Each could potentially pull off the upset – especially West Virginia – but Texas vastly more talented than either school. The real test to Texas’ turnaround will come at the last quarter of the season when the Longhorns take on OSU, Tech, and Baylor. They should be 6-0 in conference heading into that stretch.
