4. Texas Tech Red Raiders
Record: 7-1 (4-1) – Bowl Eligible
Previous Ranking: 3
Last Week: OU 38, Tech 30
This Week: vs #18 Oklahoma State
Next Week: vs Kansas State
Tough loss for the Red Raiders, who in defeat proved that they deserve to be in the Big 12’s top-tier discussion. Putting up 30 points against Texas’ defense with Tech’s style is no easy task, but they were able to make that happen.
Turnovers have proven to be the downfall of this team, adding three more to the total against OU. Take away just one of those and maybe Tech wins the game. The good news is Davis Webb and Baker Mayfield are each freshman who should only improve under Kliff Kingsbury’s system. Adding a small hint of a running game wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
Tech has three straight home games against OSU, K-State, and Baylor over the next three weeks. Two wins there should be enough to get Tech into a January bowl game. And if Tech can pull off upsets over Baylor (home) and Texas (road) then a BCS game could be in Tech’s holiday plans.
