5. TCU Horned Frogs
Record: 1-2 (0-1)
Previous Ranking: 5 (Trend: — )
Last Week: Bye
This Week: vs. SMU
Next Week: at Oklahoma
The Horned Frogs came into the season with a great deal of expectations, and some people had them being the surprise winner of the Big 12. But now, 1-2 with a loss at Texas Tech, TCU is now is “save the season” mode.
After SMU, two of their next three Big 12 games for TCU are on the road against Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. TCU could easily find themselves 3-4 with a 1-3 conference record heading into their home game with Texas, and with games at Kansas State and home to Baylor still remaining. The next month of games are going to be crucial to TCU’s season relative to their preseason expectations.
Gary Patterson is trying to change things up by moving co-offensive coordinator Jarrett Anderson to the press box during games in an effort to improve play-calling. How well that works is probably more reliant on their quarterback play than where coordinators are calling plays from, but the pressure is definitely on at TCU.
