6. Texas Longhorns
Record: 2-2 (1-0)
Previous Ranking: 7 (Trend: UP)
Last Week: Texas 31, Kansas State 21
This Week: Bye
Next Week: at Iowa State (Thursday game)
That was needed.
Texas beat a team that was built to beat them, had a long recent history of beating them, and overcame off-field issues to get a win that might have saved their season.
The win didn’t come without a price as the loss of David Ash and Jordan Hicks is going to hurt this team down the road. Texas quarterback situation has been something of a mess since Colt McCoy left, and Texas can’t afford to lose their leading tackler. But Texas does have depth they can use to help fill the void.
While the win does give them much needed momentum, things are not going to get easier. Texas still has games against Texas Tech and Oklahoma State left at home, a road games against Baylor and TCU, and the Red River Shootout still on their schedule.
But you can only win the game that is in front of you. Texas got that last weekend.
