9. Kansas Jayhawks

Record: 2-1

Previous Ranking: 10 (Trend: UP)

Last Week: Kansas 13, Louisiana Tech 10

This Week: Bye

Next Week: vs. Texas Tech

Well, Kansas certainly looked like a team that has been practicing game-winning kick celebrations.

LA Tech handed Kansas the chance to win the game with two fumbles inside the Kansas five, but give KU credit for finally taking advantage of the oppositions mistakes. It had been 22-straight FBS games the Jayhawks had lost, so entering conference season with a handful of streaks busted is a good place for KU to be.

Let’s not get this mixed up in any way – Kansas is an awful football team. But they are less awful than what they have been for the past three years. Let your guard down and Kansas has the tools – and, now, experience – to take advantage.

In the meantime, Kansas has a bye week this weekend. They may want to take that time to remember their best chance to have success on offense is to run the ball. Just a thought.
