6. Texas Tech Red Raiders
Record: 3-0 (1-0)
Previous Ranking: (Trend: Up)
Last Week: Texas Tech 20, TCU 10
This Week: vs. Texas State
Next Week: Bye
So, Texas Tech.
Tech pulled off the upset at home to beat a very solid TCU team. And while their offense took a noticeable dip in efficiency, they were also playing the best defense in the conference. Additionally, the defense stepped up to hold TCU to 10 points, making the Red Raiders out to be more dangerous than previously thought.
More food for thought: Texas Tech could be 7-0 by the time they travel to Norman, Oklahoma to face the Sooners. Given the way the Red Raiders defense played against TCU, there is little doubt Texas Tech could hang around in that game and potentially knock them off. And if they’re coming in at 7-0, then all the momentum will be on their side.
Until then, don’t be surprised if Texas Tech scores 250 points over their next four games as they have Texas State, Kansas, Iowa State, and West Virginia all on their immediate schedule.
