Last Week: Rice 23, Kansas 14

This Week: vs. Louisiana Tech

Next Week: Bye

Kansas’ passing game has been atrocious for the first two weeks of the season, and it cost them a road win last week against Rice. Jake Heaps threw a pick-six in the first quarter, and the receivers dropped more passes than the caught.

KU’s defense has been surprisingly solid in the first two weeks, special teams have improved – especially at punter, and the running game is still one of the best in the conference. But the passing game has been so terrible that the Jayhawks sit at 1-1 and look to be heading towards another very long season.

Charlie Weis is going to have to figure out a way to improve his passing game without killing his team’s chances to win. With James Sims, Darrian Miller, and Brandon Bourbon in the backfield, with Tony Pierson available to lineup in the backfield as well, the need for Kansas to be throwing nearly as much as they are passing is ridiculous.

Crazy stat from the Rice game? Heaps rushed 11 times. Eleven. Think about those running backs that were listed and now try to understand why Heaps had 11 carries in the game. There is no good reason why Heaps should have that many touches on the ground. None.

We are going to learn a lot about Charlie Weis the Coach in the next few weeks.
