2 Former Chiefs Now Available to Sign With KC for Playoff Run
Following the results of wild card weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs will play the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round. With that knowledge, the Chiefs can now start fully preparing for their first playoff game of the 2024/2025 season. This includes making any roster moves before the game on Saturday.
While any outside roster moves may seem unlikely, given that players from injured reserve could return, nothing can be ruled out, especially with the significant shift in NFL roster availability this week.
As of Monday morning, players on teams' practice squads who have been eliminated from the playoffs are now free agents, according to Tom Pelissero. This leaves the door open for running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire and kicker Matthew Wright to return,
Chiefs Could Reunite With Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Matthew Wright for Postseason
The Chiefs released Edwards-Helaire on December 16 after not seeing playing at all this season. Following his departure from Kansas City, Edwards-Helaire signed up with the New Orleans Saints practice squad. He was then elevated to their active roster in Week 17. Edwards-Helaire finished the season with 13 carries for 46 yards and three catches for 24 yards.
Despite not receiving playing time in Kansas City, Andy Reid typically keeps the door open for former players to return, so adding Edwards-Helaire back is not out of the question.
Wright, on the other hand, might have a stronger argument about being back on the roster. Current kicker Harrison Butker has struggled in spots since returning from injury, missing an extra point in week 16 and his only field goal attempt in Week 17. This has led to some fans asking for a reunion with Wright, who is 6-of-6 on extra points and 15-of-16 on field goal attempts in his time with three teams this season.
Even so, the chances of either player rejoining the roster probably sit around a four on a scale of one to 10, but the possibility still exists and is one the Chiefs must do their due diligence on and consider seriously.
