8. Derrick Nnadi - DT

The Chiefs drafted Derrick Nnadi with the 75th overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. To select Nnadi, Kansas City traded their third and fourth-round picks in that draft to move up and get him. That move clearly showed that the Chiefs believed Nnadi could develop and add value to their team.

Despite the presumed belief in Nnadi, he never developed into a true force next to Chris Jones. In seven seasons with the Chiefs, Nnadi has recorded 233 tackles, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, one forced fumble, one interception, and eight QB hits.

Furthermore, Nnadi has made 87 starts for the Chiefs, meaning around 75% of his playing time has been as a starter. This season was the first year that Nnadi was truly a rotational player, only making one start but playing in all 17 games.

Moving away from Nnadi as a full-time starter in 2024 indicates that the Chiefs are ready to move on from him. Given that Nnadi was only brought back to Kansas City on a one-year deal this past offseason, there's a high chance they allow him to walk in free agency.

9. Malik Herring - DE

Malik Herring signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2021 out of Georgia. In Herring's four years at Georgia, he recorded 76 tackles, four sacks, and one forced fumble in 52 games. Although he lacked massive statistical production in college, the Chiefs thought Herring had enough raw talent to take a chance on him.

Unfortunately, Herring missed his rookie season due to the torn ACL he suffered during the senior bowl, delaying his NFL debut till the 2023 season. That season, Herring played in seven games, recording just six tackles.

In the next two seasons, Herring played in 19 games and made one start. Subsequently, recording 22 tackles, six tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, six QB hits, and one forced fumble.

It's clear that the Herring experiment hasn't worked out, so with his contract expiring, don't expect the Chiefs to re-sign him this offseason.
