2. JuJu Smith-Schuster - WR
This past offseason, the Chiefs brought Juju Smith-Schuster back on a one-year deal worth $1.2 million. Smith-Schuster with the Chiefs in 2022 and recorded one of the better seasons of his career. In 2022, Smith-Schuster caught 78 passes for 933 yards and three touchdowns.
Although his touchdown volume was lacking, Smith-Schuster proved to be a valuable target for Mahome, catching 77% (78/101) of his passes. That stellar season earned Smith-Schuster a three-year $33 million contract with the Patriots. However, after one season, the Patriots parted ways with him.
In 2023, Smith-Schuster recorded only 29 catches for 360 yards and one touchdown. In addition to not putting up amazing stats, Smith-Schuster also missed five games in 2023. So, the Patriots' choice to call the signing a bad one made sense.
Nonetheless, the Chiefs felt like adding Smith-Schuster could give Mahomes another reliable target back. Sadly, he has been unable to produce like he did in 2022. Although Smith-Schuster did have a breakout game this season, where he recorded seven catches for 130 yards, he has yet to even come close to 100 yards again.
That said, Smith-Schuster did miss a few games this season due to injury. Even so, he has failed to make use of his 44% snap share on the season. Outside of his big game, Smith-Schuster has 10 catches for 97 yards and two touchdowns on the season.
His relative unproductivity this season seems to suggest that the Chiefs could yet again move on in the offseason. If that does happen, don't expect to see Smith-Schuster back in a Chiefs uniform again in his career.
