Eric Berry: Defensive Player Of The Year

The Kansas City Chiefs defense has come through in a number of situations this season. It’s huge to be the guy responsible for that just once, but Eric Berry can claim to have done it three times for the Chiefs. Two of those were in the same game. All in all, this has been a great season for Berry in a season where the Chiefs really needed him.

Eric Berry’s claim to the DPOY lies in his big time interceptions. Berry has a pair of pick sixes that have been the difference in winning and losing. On top of that, the star safety has the extremely rare “safety” on a two-point conversion. These big time highlight plays are exactly the kinds of things that will catch the eyes of voters. The fact that they turned potential losses into victories will carry heavily.

The chances of Eric Berry winning this award are actually pretty fair. He will need some more big plays as the season closes out, but the fact that he has “won” games for the Chiefs will definitely carry very heavily. If Berry can add another interception or two by the end of this season, he will certainly be a name in the conversation.

Will He Win It?: Eric Berry has every chance to win this award. This will likely hinge on his getting one more big play to remind the voters of what he’s done this year.
