Best Tight Ends in Chiefs History – Number 5: Jason Dunn

From 2000 to 2007, the Kansas City Chiefs had arguably the best tight end tandem in Jason Dunn and Tony Gonzalez. Gonzalez is obviously going to appear on this list later (hmmm… I wonder what number he’ll be?), but he took the more “receiver” role out of the two tight ends while Dunn was more of a blocker.

More from Chiefs All-Time Lists

Dunn’s blocking was crucial for the Chiefs. He spent eight seasons as a member of the Chiefs and looking at his stats, one might wonder why he deserves to be on this list. It was very much due to the extra lineman he was during his tenure in Kansas City.

For the record, Dunn ended his Chiefs career with 41 receptions for 353 yards and seven touchdowns. He didn’t record a touchdown during his final three seasons, but he was predominantly a blocker during that time.

Gonzalez got all of the glory as the tight end (and deservingly so), but make no mistake that Jason Dunn was a critical piece in the Chiefs offense during those eight seasons.

Dunn was let go from the Chiefs after the 2007 season, which ended up being his last in the NFL. He currently is the special teams coordinator for Kentucky State University, where he’s been since 2013.
