Sporting currently sit third in the Eastern conference standings with 17 points in 11 games played. Sporting currently trail the New England Revolution who have 20 points in 11 games played and DC United who have 18 points in 11 games played.

Toronto is near the middle of the table with 12 points in 8 games played. They currently have 3 games in hand on Sporting and a win in Sporting Park would serve them very well moving forward.

Toronto started their season on a tear winning three of their first four games but have cooled off recently dropping three of their last four. Toronto may have momentum on their side as they were able to capture victory in their previous contest against the New York Red Bulls.

Toronto will be without starting goalkeeper Júlio César and midfielder Michael Bradley. César is with the Brazil national team and Bradley with the USMNT for World Cup duties.

March 9th, 2013 at Toronto

Sporting was matched up with Toronto three times last season, with the first coming on March 9th, 2013 in Toronto. This was only the second game of the season for Sporting and the rust certainly seemed to show.

Toronto started quick and in only the third minute of the game Robert Earnshaw took advantage of an errant back pass from Matt Besler and intercepted the ball and slotted it into goal to give Toronto the 1-0 lead.

Toronto was able to score again in the first half when Robert Earnshaw slotted home a PK in the 21st minute. Seth Sinovic was beat by his man in the box and stuck his foot out in a last effort to steal the ball but instead tripped the man and Toronto was awarded the PK.

Sporting was able to pull one back in the 77th minute when Jimmy Nielsen sent a ball upfield that found C.J. Sapong and Sapong flicked it on to Claudio Bieler who was making a run into the box. Bieler was able to beat the goalkeeper with a shot to make the game 2-1 in favor of Toronto.

Sporting was unable to find the equalizer and Toronto took the first win in the season series 2-1.

July 13th, 2013 at Kansas City

The second match up came on July 13th at Sporting Park in Kansas City. Sporting looked to avenge their 2-1 loss earlier in the season to Toronto and they wasted no time attacking them.

Soony Saad gathered a ball from about 25 yards out and delivered a strike to the bottom left corner of goal that just beat the outstretched keeper to give Sporting the 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.

Saad was able to add to his tally in the second half when a shot was parried away by the Toronto goalkeeper and saad got a foot to the rebound to send it in to goal and give Sporting the 2-0 lead in the 51st minute.

Sporting was able to put the game away with maybe their best goal of the year. Words can not do it justice so I will let you watch and appreciate the quality of the goal by Claudio Bieler that gave Sporting the 3-0 lead in the 63rd minute.

Sporting was able to hold on to the shut out and even the series with a 3-0 win.

September 21st, 2013 at Toronto

The final game of the season against Toronto came on September 21st at Toronto. Sporting was looking on capturing their second straight victory against Toronto to win the series for the season.

Sporting was able to strike first in the game when a ball was sent in to the box and dwyer flicked it across goal and C.J. Sapong headed it into goal to give Sporting the 1-0 lead in the 18th minute.

Toronto was able to answer back just before halftime when Aurelien Collin mis-touched a ball that was taken by Toronto and passed to the center of the box and Darel Russel was able to send a shot low and to the left lower corner of the goal to tie the game at 1-1 in the 38th minute.

Sporting looked determined to win the game in the second half and was able to find the deciding goal when C.J. Sapong met a long ball over the top with a diving header to send the ball into goal and give Sporting the 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute.

The game would finish 2-1 and would give Sporting their second win of 2013 against Toronto. The season series would finish 2-1 as well also in favor of Sporting.
