Well, that didn't go as planned.

The Chiefs suffered their third loss of the season in last night's 21-17 failure against the Philadelphia Eagles. Kansas City's defense was stout once again, holding Jalen Hurts to just 150 passing yards and AJ Brown to one catch, but the offense couldn't put enough points on the board.

With 21 or fewer points in five games, the Chiefs have work to do offensively.

Let's look at three players on thin ice after the unfortunate loss.

3 Chiefs on Thin Ice After Gutting Loss to Eagles

1. Marquez Valdes-Scantling - WR

Valdes-Scantling was No. 1 on this list entering the game and his performance did little to assuage Chiefs Kingdom.

He finished with zero catches on three targets, including one brutal drop on a walk-in TD that effectively ended the game.

It's been a nightmare season for the $11+ million man making the sixth-most money on the team this year. Valdes-Scantling was a hero in the AFC Championship game, but it's getting harder to justify his snaps.

The deep threat has 14 catches on 27 targets for just 249 yards, with 84 of those coming in one game.

With Justin Watson earning Patrick Mahomes' trust as a reliable downfield receiver and Rashee Rice's budding stardom, I'd be surprised at this point if Valdes-Scantling is on the roster next season.

He's not the only player that had a night to forget, though.

2. Patrick Mahomes - QB

No, Mahomes does not deserve all the blame for his worst outing of the season. In fact, I think he played a good game overall and was let down by his receivers, again.

That being said, this was an opportunity for Mahomes to assert himself as the clear MVP favorite and the Chiefs as Super Bowl favorites.

Neither thing happened.

Mahomes ended the game completing just 24 of 43 passes for 177 yards, two TDs and an interception. His 4.1 yards per attempt was the worst mark of his entire career, though he did add 38 rushing yards on six attempts.

The Chiefs are now at a crossroads, with an obvious problem at wide receiver and no real solution. Mahomes will have to play better and likely rely on his legs more, though blowing a double-digit halftime lead leaves a sour taste in everyones' mouths.

Kansas City did not score a single point in the second half. If this team is making and potentially winning another Super Bowl, the offense must improve.

3. Charles Omenihu - DE

Omenihu didn't play poorly, but he didn't jump off the page either with just one tackle and one pressure. On a day the Chiefs piled up five sacks, Omenihu didn't make a big impact.

The reason he's on thin ice is his contract. Omenihu's cap hit balloons to over $11 million next season, though the Chiefs can get out of the deal if they want. With George Karlaftis and Mike Danna playing well alongside Chris Jones' usual excellence, Omenihu could become a cap casualty if he doesn't produce.

Brett Veach has a lot of difficult decisions to make this offseason. Omenihu was a marquee offseason signing to bolster the defensive line, though Danna's rise may alter the pecking order.

It's hard to argue against Danna's production this season. He's got 5.5 sacks and is a force in the run game, so I'd tip the scales in his favor if the Chiefs have to pick between the two.

If Omenihu dominates over the next several weeks, the calculus will change. For now, I'd bet the Chiefs wind up extending Danna over keeping Omenihu.
