3. Marquez Valdes-Scantling

This is another prop I’d be thrilled to target even if Kelce were playing. That he’s not going to play only bolsters my confidence, as Marquez Valdes-Scantling is suddenly the most-tenured Chiefs receiver suiting up.

Caesars Sportsbook has MVS’ receiving prop at 39.5 yards, a figure he hit in four of Kansas City’s first five games last season. He’s good for a few deep targets a game, and the Lions’ secondary was bottom-five in the NFL last year in opponent passing yards per attempt.

MVS showed his ability to step up when he hauled in six passes for 116 yards and a score in the AFC Championship Game when Kelce was dealing with a back injury, so he’s capable of delivering in a key moment.

I expect MVS and Mahomes’ chemistry to improve this season with another year working together, improving the chances the speedster hits this prop.

If you’re confident in Mahomes against a poor defense, then someone is going to haul in some passes. That makes MVS the perfect target and a worthy bet on Thursday Night Football.
